Wilson A. Bentley took his first successful photomicrograph of a snow crystal when he was nineteen years old. He went on to capture over 5000 such images during his lifetime. He published a monograph entitled Snow Crystals, illustrated with 2500 photographs, and authored the entry on “snow” in the 14th Edition Encyclopædia Britannica. He died of pneumonia on Dec. 23, 1931, after walking six miles in a blizzard in order to photograph more snowflakes.

Wonder if he ever found two that were the same…
